About Gianluca Bella

Dr. Gianluca Bella got his BSc. with honours, MSc. and a Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering at Politecnico di Torino (Italy). He has been visiting researcher at Centro de Desenvolvimento da Tecnologia Nuclear and at Federal University of Minas Gerais in Belo Horizonte (Brazil). He focussed on the static liquefaction and Critical State occurrence of unsaturated soils, and proposed an innovative aging technique to simulate the natural ionizing radiation of tailings. Dr. Bella served at Politecnico di Torino as teaching assistant at “Rock Mechanics” and “Retaining Structures” MSc courses. He was supervisor of n.5 BSc/MSc thesis in Geotechnical Engineering at Politecnico di Torino and SUPSI (Switzerland). Since 2018 he works as geotechnical engineer at Pini Group SA (Switzerland) where he is involved in international projects concerning the design of tunnels, foundations, retaining structures, monitoring and slope staility. Since 2024 Dr. Bella serves as lecturer for BSc, post-degree geotech. courses at SUPSI and he has been invited to hold some lectures at Federal Univesrity of Minas Gerais. Finally, Dr. Bella is reviewer for some journals and regularly attends - as Author - national and international conferences focussed on soil/rock mechanics with more than 60 publications.
