About Gianluca Grimaldi

I am a physicist by training, working on the spectroscopic characterization of materials of interest for next-generation solar cell devices. I obtained my PhD at the Technical University of Delft, studying the behavior of excited electrons in Quantum Dot materials, to then move to the University of Cambridge as a Research Associate, investigating the photophysics of two-dimensional perovskite materials in a collaboration with the AMOLF research institute in Amsterdam. Throughout my scientific career I have tried to rationalize complex physical behavior with a combination of data visualization, mathematical modeling and analytical thinking. I have participated in many collaborative research projects, and as a Research Associate I have taken an interest in the supervision of other researchers and in project management. I have a keen interest in contributing to the energy transition effort, by working in areas that allow the growth of renewable energy solutions. I am a positive-thinking colleague, always happy to share other's efforts, and thrive in environments that foster collaboration. I am a coffee-loving movie fanatic, always itching for a run or a chess game, and I can get a bit intense over a table tennis match. I am a native Italian speaker and I am fluent in English, but my passion for learning new languages has led me to take up the study of a few other ones: I have an intermediate level in Dutch and Spanish (around B1 level) and have recently picked up some basic knowledge in Danish (A1 level).
