Gianna Bern is a Teaching Professor of Finance and Academic Director, Executive MBA program. For 10 years, Gianna Bern has been at the University of Notre Dame's Mendoza College of Business where she provides administrative leadership to Notre Dame's executive education programs (Exec. MBA and MSF programs) on both the South Bend and Chicago campuses. Ms. Bern endeavors to bring together world class faculty to executive level MBA students seeking to grow or pivot in their professional lives. She works with a broader student support team including Student Services, Career Advisory, Alumni relations, Operations, and Experiential learning. After 25 rewarding years in capital markets and risk management, Ms. Bern left to teach in higher education. From 2008-2014, Gianna Bern was a principal at the former Brookshire Advisory and Research. Brookshire was a Chicago-based registered investment advisory (RIA) firm and commodity trading advisor (CTA), from 2012-2014, with corporate clients and institutional investors in the areas of energy sector equity research and investment advisory services as it relates to the energy sector. Ms. Bern has had an extensive global career with the opportunities to work in Brazil, Argentina, Canada, South Africa, and Singapore. Previously, Ms. Bern was a Senior Director Corporate Finance for Fitch Ratings' Latin America group covering oil, gas, and utilities in Latin America. Ms. Bern has held managerial level positions at BP Plc's commercial trading group (IST) and at Amoco Oil in risk management trading and energy economics analysis. Ms. Bern has also held positions at Continental Bank (now Bank of America) in corporate finance. Ms. Bern is the author of Investing in Energy: A Primer on the Economics of the Energy Industry (2011), Bloomberg Wiley. Ms. Bern is an occasional commentator on global energy markets and has been on Bloomberg television and PBS News. She has been quoted in various business media including the Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, U.S. News and other outlets. Ms. Bern is a 1989 graduate of the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business and is working towards her EdD dissertation at the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign.
