About Gianni Wise

Gianni Wise lives and works in Sydney, Australia. Gianni has taught/teaches at Curtin University, the University of Sydney, UNSWAD, and UTS. As a freelance designer he has worked with such clients as the UNHCR, Sony Music, Sydney Theatre Company, and various corporate clients and NGOs. He was awarded his doctorate at the Faculty of Social Sciences, the University of Sydney in 2017. He has lived in Chile, Argentina and Holland. In his art practice of 20 years he has exhibited widely within Australia and Berlin. He has shown work in Chile, Switzerland and Germany. In 2006 he was selected for inclusion in the ‘50 Photographers of Tomorrow’ survey exhibition at the Museum of Elysée, Switzerland. Gianni has been a recipient of a number of national and international awards including an Australia Council Grant. He has worked in film production and set design with a number of organisations. He has curated and exhibited in Germany, Switzerland and Portugal. He was involved with a project involving Afro-American artists in Chicago, USA. As an artist he works across various media from video to installation, sometimes collaboratively and at other times on solo projects. He has evolved a large body of work which deals with notions of social paranoia, conspiracy theories, security and narratives of fear in contemporary digital cultures. Gianni is included in a range of publications including Documenta 12 (Kassel) magazine project- Barelife, Broadsheet, reGeneration: 50 Photographers of Tomorrow (Museum of Elysée, Switzerland).
