About Gil Barros

I treasure design and research. I've been doing design for over 20 years and using research to inform design since 2005. My objective is always to have a deeper understanding of the now, to drive positive change in the future. Besides running my successful design practice and being a university professor, I've also collaborated with design agencies and worked with clients of all sizes, including international and multicultural teams. I have led, supervised and conducted several research initiatives, from contextual research and longitudinal studies to interviews and usability testing. I was responsible for research design, execution, analysis and presentation of insights. I use the lens of strategic design and systems thinking, and my research practice is informed by a unique blend of knowledge and expertise. It includes my training in architecture and urbanism, MSc. in Electrical Engineering, PhD and post-doc in UX design and is complemented by my mentoring, public speaking and knowledge-sharing skills as a university professor. I care deeply about using design for positive social change and am particularly interested in projects in the public sector or socially oriented organizations.
