About Gil Keppens
I am an assistant professor in Sociology at the Department of Sociology at Tilburg University and the Tilburg Center of the Learning Sciences. I obtained my master’s degree in sociology at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Belgium) and joined the TOR research group in September 2012 where I obtained my PhD in Sociology with a dissertation on school disengagement among youth with school attendance problems. I am involved for more than 10 years in research on student learning, with a special focus on behavior problems such as school engagement, school dropout and school absenteeism. I am a member of the executive board of the International Network for School Attendance, where I lead the scientific committee on defining what research is needed in the area of absenteeism world-wide. My work has been published in among others Youth & Society, Studies in Educational Evaluation, Journal of School Psychology, and Learning and Instruction.
