About Gilbert Agius

Responsible for all operational aspects within the Land Transport Directorate, with particular and hands-on focus on the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Unit this includes the registration and licensing of all vehicle categories and the issuing of driving licences, the related permits, and the administration of the penalty points system. Also responsible for all budgetary drafting measures and their subsequent implementation, including Government initiatives and schemes related to Land Transport and their deployment throughout the various units. A master’s in business administration, from the University of Maastricht and for the past thirty years I successfully worked both in the private manufacturing industry and the public sector at (Transport Malta) were I held various positions. I am also experienced in project management, product development, budgeting, procurement, international relations, transportation, and other encompassing areas. I am a member of various EU Committees and overseeing spearheading all transposition of EU Directives and Regulations related to vehicle registration and licensing, ensuring that all their aspects are implemented and monitored, effectively and consistently. At Transport Malta, I have personally led various business re-engineering and streamlining processes, and I am thoroughly involved in the understudy of the national approach to sustainable and green transport. I am also part of the digitalisation project through various initiatives to identify, test and eventually implement innovative and green technologies within the transport sector.
