About Gilberto Manunza

I love to solve problems using data and algorithms. Currently, I'm working at Google to make search results more inspiring and useful using LLMs. My job is to design, develop and productionize complex data processing systems using cutting-edge AI algorithms. Even since I was a little kid I have been fascinated by innovative technologies and I have always tried to come up with new inventions to solve everyday problems. When I was in middle school I developed a passion for programming, at that time I wasn't satisfied with existing videogames, so I decided to learn how to create one. I developed my own version of space invaders, it was very slow and buggy, but hey, it was my first real programming project! During university at Politecnico di Torino I deepened my knowledge in computer related topics, but it was at the end of my bachelor's degree that I discovered Machine Learning and I loved it immediately, especially thanks to an internship I did at the startup AIKO. I wanted to learn how to extract value from data using algorithms. This is what drove me though my master's in Data Science and Engineering. It has been a great experience for me as I had the opportunity to work in several cool projects, including my thesis at EPFL and the Alta Scuola Politecnica, an excellence program open to the best students of Politecnico di Torino and Politecnico di Milano. I also carried out various side projects with the goal of improving my soft skills. In particular I am a member of the Mu Nu Chapter of Kappa Nu, a honor society that aims at recognizing and encouraging student excellences. In this association I took up various leadership positions: Head of IT, Vicepresident and Corresponding Secretary. I have always looked for ways to make an impact with my actions. Data driven methods will become more and more important and I want to give my contribution in building the future, one line of code at a time.
