About Gillian Armstrong

Experienced Palliative Care Nurse Practitioner and Director of Care at Carpenter Hospice in Burlington, Ontario, with a strong focus on clinical excellence, health system leadership, and education. Chair of the Nurse Practitioners’ Association of Ontario (NPAO) Palliative and End-of-Life Community of Practice, Co-Course Faculty for the University of Toronto’s Continuing Professional Development Certificate in Palliative Care for Nurse Practitioners, and a certified LEAP Facilitator with Pallium Canada, delivering primary-level palliative care education across settings. With a Master of Nursing, Nurse Practitioner degree from the University of Toronto and national certification in Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Nursing, I bring years of experience in complex pain and symptom management, interdisciplinary collaboration, and NP-led program development. My clinical background includes roles as Palliative Medicine Nurse Practitioner at Halton Healthcare and Most Responsible Provider at Hospice Muskoka. A committed mentor and advocate, I actively contribute to provincial and national initiatives, including the development of Canada’s first Palliative Care Residency Program for Nurse Practitioners through the Canadian Palliative Care NP Community of Practice (CPCNP CoP). Driven to advance the role of NPs in palliative and end-of-life care, I work to ensure access, quality, and continuity are prioritized for patients and families—across care settings and across the country.
