About Gillian Coleman

With a passion for improving healthcare services for both patients and staff, my career has led me to become a Quality and Safety Specialist with extensive experience across acute medicine, emergency medicine, maritime medicine, and healthcare governance. My clinical background includes roles in major trauma, public and private Emergency Departments, minor injuries, surgical and acute medicine. My Maritime Medicine role provided me with additional experience in radiology, pharmacy, laboratory, general practice and first responding, which equipped me with a strong multidepartmental understanding. My non clinical roles incorporated management and Quality Education for healthcare professionals. As a former Senior Consultant of Policy and Compliance for a global fleet of ship medical centres, I had key responsibilities for clinical standards, regulation, and policy alignment across international jurisdictions. Currently, my role as a Quality and Safety Specialist, ranges across varied healthcare sectors with core responsibilities in supporting organisations with regulatory requirements and inspection processes. My expertise includes identifying areas for improvement and developing solutions through- Conducting Gap Analysis - Quality & Safety of Care Audits - Report development following onsite reviews providing practical high-quality findings and recommendations- Quality improvement initiatives- Governance Reviews- Process mapping and developing policies and procedures- Offering expertise in healthcare quality improvement, risk management, and regulatory compliance- Helping clients understand and fulfil regulations, including JCI, CHKS, HIQA, MHC, HSE, ISO - Supporting the development and provision of training and education programmes. Driven by a passion for healthcare excellence and a commitment to patient safety, I continually strive to enhance healthcare delivery through innovative solutions, effective management, and a deep understanding of healthcare policies and practices. My life goal is to continue making meaningful contributions to healthcare quality and safety by supporting services in building strong, sustainable governance and patient-centred care. I aim to blend clinical insight with strategic thinking, helping teams navigate regulation, culture change, and continuous improvement.
