About Gillian Smith

My name is Gillian Smith and I am a Field HSE Adviser for Origin Energy. I provide in-field support with investigations, assurance, training, and safety programs. I currently work FIFO. I have previously worked as a Health and Safety Adviser at Woodside Energy. I have worked on Logistics bases, producing assets, and Drilling vessels. I have highly developed communication skills - both written and verbal - and advanced computer skills. I have also received awards such as the Long Tan Defense Force Award for leadership at high school and the Occupational Health and Safety scholarship at University. I have a vibrant and energetic personality and am considered a ‘people person’ with a great positive attitude. I can organise and work independently and within a team. I can negotiate positive outcomes for both parties which have been reflected in the awards I have received. I also work as a tutor assisting other students with studies. Most recently I have been employed by Foodbank as a Health and Safety Advisor. In this role, I reviewed current policies and procedures to ensure compliance with the legislation, and overhauled the outdated system to make it more user friendly for workers. I also reviewed and redesigned the workplace safety induction process and video, to include workplace and legislative updates. Additionally, I completed the Summer Vacation Program with Woodside Energy from November to February 2016. In this role I reviewed and developed a Health and Wellbeing program, developed user guides for new medical software, and conducted an extensive review of current medical policy, and suggested improvements. I was able to utilise this research in writing my thesis during my university studies. The positions I look for and undertake help me follow my passion of Occupational Health and Safety. I have extensive experience with the legislation, and have a passion for toxicology.
