About Ginny Lai

I am passionate about scientific discoveries and thrilled at the power it can have on saving lives. Although the responsibilities are different in academia and industry, my contribution is identical - to demonstrate and promote innovation, inspiration and invention. Having PhD in Cell and Molecular Biology, in the brief time, the new products and/or processes development can be achieved. Combined MS in Business with my bilingual ability, English and Mandarin Chinese, simultaneously, I can work with clients directly to benefit a biotech or pharmaceutical company's business. Over 15 years working in the laboratory, I am competent to independently design, implement and troubleshoot experiments with data analysis, for example, comparing recombinant protein expression systems in E. coli, yeast, insect and mammalian cells, generating customized E. coli strains to improve quality and raise quantity for plasmid manufacturing or creating specific cell lines to explore correlation between gene expression and proliferation of tumor cells. In addition to R&D work, I also want to participate in a multi-disciplinary team to develop operations strategies for company long-term goals and mission, thus, I studied in the business school. In this cohort program, besides learning new knowledge from coursework, my soft skills also have been advanced in effective communication and efficient management, particularly in dealing with conflicts and/or engaging teammates to complete the assigned tasks prior to deadline."Success is where preparation and opportunity meet"[1]. I am grateful for the assistance from my employers and colleagues. They not only encouraged me to proceed with my career goal, but also supported me to accomplish 4 peer reviewed articles, products including capping enzymes, engineered strains of E. coli, doggy bone DNA (dbDNA), anti-tumor superantigens, HIV Armored RNA, and multiple cell culture fermentation processes.
