About Gioele Pagot

During my MSc and post-Master at the Chemical Department of the University of Padova I had the opportunity to study novel materials in the field of Energy Storage (Batteries, Fuel Cells, and Redox-Flow Batteries) in the research group coordinated by Prof. Vito Di Noto. I then joined the Doctoral Course in Science and Engineering of Materials and Nanostructures at the University of Padova carrying on the work developed during my MSc. In details, my efforts where focused on the development of high-voltage cathodes and electrolytes for application in rechargeable lithium and magnesium batteries. Our results have been successfully presented at International Conferences and published in peer-reviewed Scientific Journals. I spent 2 years as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Padova and as a visiting research fellow at the Hunter College of the City University of New York (6 months), under the supervision of Prof. Steven Greenbaum. Currently, I am a research fellow (RTDa) at the University of Padova in the CheMaMSE research group, coordinated by Prof. Vito Di Noto. My research is focused on the development and study of materials for the electrochemical energy storage and conversion, with a particular reference to secondary batteries (i.e, based on Li, Mg, Na, Ca and Al anodes), redox flow batteries (e.g, all V, Zn/I2, Fe/Cr) and proton/alkaline exchange membrane fuel cells. In our research group we have available a large number of instrumentations, which allowed me to improve my technical skills. In particular, I am able to use and analyze the results obtained by means of the following techniques: near ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy; powder X-ray diffraction and Rietveld refinement; far and medium Fourier transform infrared, confocal micro-Raman and Fourier transform Raman spectroscopies; CHNS-O elemental analysis and inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy; thermogravimetric analysis and differential scanning calorimetry; high resolution field emission gun scanning electron microscopy; electrochemical techniques using a potentiostat/galvanostat instrumentation (cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry, potentiometry, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy); broadband electrical spectroscopy (BES). In addition to the synthesis and study of the functional materials, I have the skills to implement and test them into lab-scale prototype devices, such as: primary and secondary battery devices (coin cell, EL-CELL, and Swagelok type configurations), and proton/alkaline exchange membrane fuel cell devices (PEMFC/AEMFC).
