About Giorgio Barrera

Giorgio Barrera, works with photography, video and writing. He focuses his research on the analysis of visual languages, the creation of imaginaries, on the relationship between reality and subjectivity. His research is expressed through various experiments and design methodologies. He has exhibited internationally, won several awards, curated exhibitions and written essays on photography. He was an assistant to Joel Meyerowitz and won, among others, the Baume & Mercier, Canon, FNAC awards, he collaborated with various Italian Cultural Institutes, with Mibact and other various institutions and galleries. He exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, at the Somerset House in London, the Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome, the Diocesan Museum of Venice, at Contact, Toronto Festival. In 2017 he published an essay entitled "The battle of images"(Postscart) which introduces a creative form of media activism to be realized with images. He was the artistic director of the Ragusa Festival and is one of the founders of the Italian photo collective protagonist of COOP Unseen Amsterdam in 2018. Also in 2018 he was co-curator of the Supercity exhibition held at MUFOCO. He is currently making a documentary in a long term artist residency at Dolomiti Contemporanee. He is interested in biodynamic agriculture and nature processes.
