About Giovanni Bussi

During the Ph. D, under the supervision of Prof. Elisa Molinari at the Universita di Modena and Reggio Emilia, my research was focused on the ab initio computation of optical properties in low-dimensional systems. Afterward, I joined the group of Prof. Michele Parrinello at ETH Zurich, and I started working in the field of computer simulation of molecular systems, with a special focus on rare events and biological problems. Then, I spent an additional year in Modena, working on the modeling of nonequilibrium experiments. In September 2009 I landed in SISSA, where I started a project on the simulation of nucleic acids, especially RNA. My research group has been funded by an ERC grant (see http://srnas.sissa.it). Currently I am mostly interested in two topics: characterizing RNA structure and dynamics using molecular modeling tools, also in combination with experimental data, and developing algorithms for molecular dynamics simulations. In addition I am one of the developers of plumed a widely used open source C++ software for molecular dynamics and enhanced sampling.
