About Giulia Consuma

I am an early career researcher with a passion for understanding and communicating the formation and evolution of Earth's mineral resources. My core competencies include petrology, mineral chemistry, stable isotope analysis, field work, sample preparation, and data interpretation. I am currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Centre for Exploration Targeting (The University of Western Australia), working on a large project that aims to unravel the mechanisms and factors that control the formation of high-grade copper deposits, which are essential for the transition to a greener economy. I am also a Science Officer of the EGU GMPV Division, where I help to promote and support the scientific activities and outreach of the geosciences' community in Europe and beyond. In my current role as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, I conduct field work and collect samples from Escondida (Chile) and Resolution (Arizona), and perform detailed analysis on apatite inclusions in zircon to unveil the original volatile content of high-grade hypogene porphyry copper deposits. I collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers, industry partners, and stakeholders to integrate and synthesize the results and generate new insights and models for the exploration and discovery of porphyry copper deposits. I also contribute to the science communication and dissemination of the project outcomes, by writing articles, presenting at conferences, and participating in the Outreach Working group of the European Geosciences Union and the Communication Committee of SIMP, the Italian Society of Mineralogy and Petrology. I enjoy sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm for geology and mineral resources with diverse audiences, and engaging in dialogue and collaboration with fellow scientists and professionals.
