About Giulia Preti

I am a researcher in the Social Algorithmics Team (SALT) at the Center of Artificial Intelligence (CENTAI) in Turin, Italy. My research primarily focuses on graphs, with particular emphasis on weighted and dynamic graphs. For weighted graphs, my work involves developing solutions that identify frequently occurring structures in the graph with large weights. These structures are highly relevant to the user and can be used to personalize products and services rather than offering generic solutions. In the case of dynamic graphs, my algorithms detect groups of convergent edges, indicating a positive correlation in their behavior. These groups represent regions of interest within the network, especially when involving topologically close edges. Recently, I have also been investigating pattern mining techniques and null models for complex networks such as hypergraphs and simplicial complexes. My goal is to assess the statistical significance of the results computed by such algorithms. During my Ph.D. studies, I worked on entity resolution in highly heterogeneous and temporal databases. I developed a time-aware, schema-agnostic similarity function that considers the heterogeneity and dynamism of the data, allowing for the identification of maximal groups of similar temporal records. In addition to my research, I have been PC chair of several conferences including SDM, WSDM, and ECMLPKDD, and a reviewer for computer science journals such as TKDE and TKDD.
