Background

About Giulia Pusceddu

I hold a Ph.D. in Cognitive Robotics and Human-Robot Interaction, earned at the Italian Institute of Technology, where I currently continue my research. My work explores group dynamics in human-robot interaction, with a focus on social exclusion, decision-making, and the mutual influence between humans and robots in collaborative and educational settings. I'm especially interested in creating social robots that can understand, respond to, and adapt to how human groups work. I'm also a teaching assistant at the University of Genoa, where I run lab sessions for the Biomedical Robotics course. Over the past few years, I’ve been honored to receive several recognitions for my research, including an Honorable Mention at HRI Pioneers 2025, a Best Paper Award nomination at ICSR 2024, and a Best Late Breaking Report nomination at HRI 2023. I also co-organized three editions of the international workshop “Advancing GROup UNderstanding and robots' aDaptive behavior” at RO-MAN 2023, RSS 2024, and IAS 2025. Outside academia, I completed a Master in Change Management, which helped me build skills in leadership and organizational strategy. I'm part of the Global Shapers Community, where I contribute to projects around climate, education, and civic engagement, and I serve on the board of the Ligurian Information Technology Club, where I also lead a mentorship program.
