About Giulia Tomagra
I am a researcher in biophysics with a background in physics. During my studies I carried out two internships at two important research centers in Italy: INRiM (2014, 5 month) and INFN (2015-2016, 9 month). After my master graduation in Physics, I consolidated my skills in electrophysiology in Prof. Carabelli’s laboratory (1 year). After I received my doctorate in Neuroscience cum laude. During my doctorate, I focused on the development and application of new biosensor technologies in diamond to reveal multiple parameters of neuronal activity. I currently use electrophysiology technique, as patch-clamp and diamond biosensors to study important neuronal parameters, in physiological and pathological conditions, to understand the early stages of neurodegenaritive diseases as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. In parallel, using diamond devices, I am studying the effects of ionizing radiation on single cells. The aim of this research is to understand the effects at non-lethal doses for possible applications in healthcare and space.
