About Giuseppe Formetta

I am Giuseppe Formetta, an experienced researcher on water cycle, hydrology and hydrological modeling, and data analysis. During my PhD, in Trento University and in USA (Colorado State University and ARS-USDA, Fort Collins), I implemented and tested a large scale, open source, GIS-based, hydrological model named NewAge. The model simulates the whole hydrological cycle and during its assessment I was involved in collecting and managing hydro-meteorological data, that varied in time and in space. During my two post-doctorates (one across Italy and USA, and one in USA) I was involved in developing models for landslide prediction. Currently, at the Center for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH, NERC- UK), I am involved in hydrological model development, flood forecasting and flood frequency analysis in the whole UK. The use of large scale hydrological models in data scarce area and the possibility to integrate them in traditional flood frequency estimation methods is also part of my work. All the activities I developed allowed me to gain important skills in term of programing languages (Java, Fortran, C), data management and analysis software (R, Python, Matlab), GIS software (Grass, QGIS, JGrass, Arcgis).
