I have been working with The Irish Times for seven years, primarily in a live role on the digital production team in which I work closely with the news desk. This role has evolved greatly over time from the initial subediting and digital publishing elements and now sees me working on major breaking news stories as they happen. I often conduct original reporting for live stories as well as subbing them and enhancing our digital multimedia content within them such as verifying social posts, photos, videos, graphics and data for events like elections or major incidents. I fill in for reporters in breaking news situations when necessary to produce copy in an accurate yet timely manner. This digital first reporting has resulted in page one stories and follow-up pieces on several occasions. Several long form news features can be found online covering alternative housing methods, transport and heritage items. The live aspect of my role also involves keeping a close eye on the never ending changes and challenges faced globally in light of Brexit, international tensions, recent US presidencies, UK politics and coverage of the developing world in Africa, Asia and South America. I have assisted in the reporting of multiple foreign elections including manning the live coverage and reporting for the last two US presidential elections through our live stories. I liaise directly with the foreign desk on a daily basis to help ensure our foreign coverage is as comprehensive as possible. I have also worked in the features department subbing the weekly Magazine, Weekend Review and Ticket supplements as well as contributing to these sections with gig reviews, artists interviews and long form arts and lifestyle feature writing. Additionally, I have worked on a number of data driven articles stemming from our day to day coverage of Covid-19 cases in Ireland. From gathering, verifying and maintaining this data I went on to complete a post grad certificate in data journalism in UCD. This has helped me to compile stories on bank closures across the country, mapping road traffic fatalities in 2024 and transport usage levels and road deaths post-pandemic. I'm a hard-working, committed individual with a great ability to adapt to new situations. I'm always willing to learn from colleagues. I'm capable of adapting to any form of media be it print, online or broadcast given my levels of experience with each having previously worked in radio and having done several TV and radio appearances off the back of my written work.
