About Glenda Kruss

As the Executive Head of the Centre for Science, Technology and Innovation Indicators at the Human Sciences Research Council, I have dedicated the past decade to advancing innovation studies. My work delves into understanding the pivotal role of universities and public research institutes in driving economic and social development. Exploring the intricate dynamics of skills and knowledge flows within sectoral, national, and global innovation systems has been a central focus of my research. Currently, I am deeply engaged in developing contextually relevant measures of Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) for fostering inclusive and sustainable development in South Africa, sub-Saharan Africa and the Global South. Through extensive collaboration on comparative research projects across Africa, Latin America, Asia, and Europe, I've cultivated a nuanced understanding of global innovation landscapes. My expertise extends to leading large-scale projects for national governments, where I've fostered alliances and networks between researchers, policymakers, and practitioners in South Africa. I am passionate about leveraging research to drive tangible socio-economic impact, and I continuously seek opportunities to bridge the gap between academia and policy to catalyze positive change. Let's connect to explore potential collaborations and exchange insights on advancing STI for sustainable development.
