About Glenn Sutherland

A career ecologist, Glenn is committed to sustaining ecosystem health and endangered species populations, and in fostering effective conservation practices by both governments and industry. He is also an award-winning contemporary classical music composer whose pieces have been performed by a number of professional ensembles and soloists in Vancouver, elsewhere in Canada, and in Europe. Glenn has helped 4 different Recovery Teams (boreal caribou, Southern Mountain caribou, Spotted Owl, Marbled Murrelet) to develop their national recovery strategies. Glenn has helped design and execute a large-scale, long-term habitat restoration and monitoring project in NE Alberta. We have developed models and techniques for landscape-level cumulative effects impact assessments. Glenn has helped develop species occupancy-habitat models for 13+ keystone vertebrate species in western Canada. We have developed decision support tools for silvicultural planning under climate change. We have helped develop risk assessment methods for forestry-carbon projects. Glenn composes contemporary classical music for vocalists, choral ensembles, and chamber ensembles. He is the Canadian Music Centre's Prairie Region winner of the 2016 Emerging Composer Competition, with a piece for orchestra.
