About Goder Yohannes

Independent International Consultant focusing on the planning and management of international relief, recovery and development assistance. I served with in the UN system (first UNDP and the ILO) for eighteen years. My motto is to facilitate the realization of the objectives of international development assistance, including the pursuit of peace and the enhancement of sustainable growth and development; always with due respect to diversity and social and cultural values of beneficiary communities, listening; and convincing rather than imposing. I have taken up both short and resident assignments in Africa (including Eritrea, Ethiopia, Liberia, Rwanda, Nigeria, South Sudan, and Zambia), Europe (including the UK, Serbia, Switzerland), and the U.S. I served on mission assignments to Mauritius, Iraq, Sri Lanka, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Turkmenistan, the West Bank (Jennin), and Zimbabwe among others. My comprehensive international exposure and experience accords me technical skills and necessary sensitivities to cultural and social values. I offer expertise in the identification and articulation of needs, and the design, management and monitoring of projects and programs for countries in crisis and/or in post conflict and transitioning to development. I have assessed and articulated socio economic needs of communities, worked on the development of frameworks and strategies for development interventions, designed projects and programs, and managed, supervised, monitored and backstopped the delivery process. Poverty is at the core of nearly all social ill and empowering the poor is one sure remedy. Time and again, the poor have proven to be worthy of our trust. Developing (public-private) partnerships and investing on opportunities that facilitate the social and economic empowerment of the poor is tantamount to investing on comprehensive, far reaching and sustainable peace, security and prosperity!
