About Gon Chaudhuri

Dr S. P. Gon Chaudhuri, an Electrical Engineer from Jadavpur University, is an expert in the area of renewable energy having worked in the field for the last 35 years. He is a specialist in photovoltaic system engineering and design and has executed a large number of Solar PV projects around India and abroad. The off-grid PV system with mini grid concept he developed received world recognition. He introduced solar lanterns and remote solar PV based communication in India. The first solar housing complex at Kolkata was designed by him. About million people in the Sundarbans area of West Bengal are getting electricity through Solar PV which was pioneered by Dr Gon Chaudhuri. India’s first 2 MW Solar PV power plant has been commissioned under his leadership. He has chaired and delivered key note speech on numerous International Renewable Energy Conferences organised in India and abroad. He is an Adjunct Professor at BESU(Formerly BE College,Kolkata) and heads NB Institute For Rural Technology, a leading NGO of North East India where he is the Chairman. He has represented India in various International forums and conferences related to Sustainable Energy. He was conferred the Honorary Doctor of Science Award from Calcutta University in the year 2009. He has won several International and National Awards in the area of Renewable Energy including: Mission Innovation Champion award from Mission Innovation at Vancouver,Canada 2019 Ashden Award for Sustainable Energy,2003 from Ashden Award Trust,UK at London, UK Euro Solar Award,2004,Germany International PV-SEC,2009 Award(Asia Pacific) for life time contribution towards Renewable Energy Christopher Weeks Award,1995,Johenusburg for Solar Lantern Project implemented through NBIRT from International Solar Energy Society (ISES) National Science Academy Award, CBIP Award and Surya Award from Govt of India.
