About Gorana Stepanic
Gorana Stepanic /Gorana Stepanić/, PhD in Classical Philology (University of Zagreb, 2005), is a Croatian Neo-Latin scholar working as an assistant professor at the Department of Humanities (Juraj Dobrila University of Pula, Croatia) since 2009. She worked as a teaching and research assistant at the Department of Classics (Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, Croatia / 1997-2008) and a honorary lecturer at the universities of Pula (2001-2004; 2008-2009) and Zadar (2008-2009). She spent a total of 20 months as a Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development post-doc grant holder at the Universidad Complutense, Madrid, Spain (2006-2009). She has taught BA and MA courses on Roman literature, humanism and Neo-Latin literature to students of Latin philology and Croatian philology. She is a co-author of the MA program in Latin philology at the University of Pula. The main lines of her research are Latin humanism in Croatia (Marko Marulić and his work, Latin Aristotle commentary of Nicolò Viti de Gozze, Latin travel reports/Huszthi), 17th century Latin poetry (Ignatius Georgi, Stephanus Gradi, Cajetanus Vicich), late latinism (Čobarnić). She has published translations from classical Latin (Cicero, De oratore) and humanist Latin (Thomas More, Utopia; Leon Battista Alberti, De pictura; Petrarch, Colonna, P. P. Vergerius, Cencio de' Rustici, Poggio Bracciolini, Flavio Biondo, Johannes Althusius, Josip Zahchi – fragments). Her translation of a Latin commentary on Aristotle's Rhetoric (1600) by a Ragusan philosopher Nicolò Viti de Gozze is waiting to be published and she is preparing a new critical edition of its original.
