About Gordon Mosser

Physician (internal medicine) and physician leader since 1976. Educated at Harvard College, Oxford University (Linacre College), and Harvard Medical School. Residency at University of Minnesota. Fellowship (in epidemiology) at Oxford University (Dept. of Social and Community Medicine). Practiced general internal medicine for 27 years. Founded Aspen Medical Group, Minneapolis-St. Paul, in 1983. Co-founded the Institute for Clinical Systems Improvement in Minnesota in 1992 and served as its Executive Director, later re-titled President, for 13 years. This organization provides a framework for collaboration in performance improvement for nearly all medical groups in Minnesota and most of the hospitals. It has been the model for similar regional healthcare improvement collaboratives in Pennsylvania, California, Colorado, Wisconsin, and several other states. Founded the Network for Regional Healthcare Improvement in 2004. This organization fosters interaction and learning among regional collaboratives across the country. Moved from ICSI to the University of Minnesota in 2006. Taught performance improvement, teamwork, and leadership, mainly in the Master of Healthcare Administration program. Retired from full-time teaching in 2011. As a Senior Fellow, continues to teach, write, and consult. Has published 20 articles in peer-reviewed journals. With James W. Begun, published Understanding Teamwork in Health Care (McGraw-Hill, 2013).
