About Grace Bannister

I am an ambitious, highly-motivated and enthusiastic MA Magazine Journalism student at City, University of London. I can effectively communicate with a variety of people, and enjoy writing and presenting my ideas to others. I was Features Editor at York’s award-winning student publication Nouse where I worked with fellow editors and writers to produce articles for our website and print editions. I also created a section of the paper called AlumNOUSE which aims to connect our student and alumni community. I have already begun to create strong contacts in the media industry, interviewing media titan Greg Dyke earlier this year. I also reported on the General Election Count at the York Racecourse, and enjoy writing Feature and Comment pieces. Alongside working on InDesign for our print editions, I understand the importance of digital journalism and take pride in uploading Canva-made posts to our instagram page @yorkmusefeatures. I created the ‘On History’ podcast with three other course-mates, where we interview and upload interviews with staff from York’s History department as episodes on Spotify. This podcast series was created with the aim of making History more accessible for those outside of the university environment. Getting the front page after my week’s work experience at The Northern Echo was certainly rewarding. It was a pleasure to meet the team and to learn the ins-and-outs of a regional newsroom. I have a strong interest in current affairs and attend weekly MUN sessions, engaging in debate. I attended a three-day MUN Conference in Scotland (ScotMun) last year, engaging in debate with students from all over the world. I am passionate about languages. Already proficient in German, I’m currently also taking Spanish language classes as a non-credit module. This summer I also attended an intensive Spanish course at UAB Barcelona.
