Background
About Grace Dickson
We all wear many hats. My choice of hats is driven by my passion for mental health awareness and treatment. This passion has driven me in my work and education. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Counseling and Human Services, with a concentration in Human Development, from the University of Scranton. During my time at Scranton, I was in their accelerated masters program for Clinical Mental Health Counseling. When it was time to take off the graduation cap, I decided to continue my educational journey at Montclair State University and complete my masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. When I take off my student hat, I put on my Residential Counselor hat. I am a Residential Counselor at Hackensack Meridian Health's Carrier Clinic, working with adolescent females in a residential treatment program. I work with a variety of co-occurring disorders and enjoy using my counseling skills and personal strengths to support my residents while they work so hard on their goals. One of my favorite parts of this job is being able to be apart of so many adolescents' journeys during such a challenging time in their life. I find this aspect of my job a privilege, no matter how testing it may be at times. Currently, I am looking to add "intern" to my rack of hats. It is the exciting time of my masters degree where I get to begin my fieldwork. I am eager to learn in a new setting and apply my skills even further. Sometimes these hats are glamorous, sometimes they are covering up a bad (hair) day. At the end of the day, when the hats come off, I reflect on this journey. I reflect on my growing edges, my strengths, my needs and wants, and what is to come next. I take this journey one step at a time, one hat at a time.
