About Grace Erving

My emerging steps into the social work profession have led me to discover a passion for child welfare, specifically the foster care system. Throughout my career, I have surrounded myself with opportunities to work with children and transitional youth, whether that be through facilitating grief support groups, direct child care as a licensed foster parent, or taking on a behind-the-scenes role in supporting foster care departments through CQI efforts, social media management for the recruitment of foster parents, and working with transitional youth directly as they step out of the system and into independent living. Each of these experiences has offered me an insight into the strengths and challenges of the foster care system and reminded me of my personal drive to be instrumental in positive change. I have discovered a newfound motivation as this stage of my career is focused on working with clients directly, as the relationship built between children, families, and their communities is one that I truly value and recognize to be where healing begins. Reflecting on the experience I have gained in child welfare, I am confident in my abilities to lead with empathy, reason, and integrity to ensure the best outcome for my clients and their communities, regardless of the role and capacity I serve in. I am cognizant of the impact I have on my clients, and likewise am grateful for the impact my clients have on me. I welcome each new experience in this field and I am committed to standing in support of those in need. Looking to the future, I am excited for the opportunity to work with students and their families as they move through the education system in pursuit of their academic and lifetime goals.
