Background
About Grace L Turtle
Leading design and foresight practices that queer AI and open new horizons for systemic change. I am a Colombian-Australian AI researcher, designer, and educator with over 15 years’ experience leading strategic design, insight, and foresight practices internationally. My work focuses on queering AI — unsettling normative predictive logics — and designing for co-predictive relations that foreground plurality, uncertainty, and more-than-human relationality. My PhD at TU Delft’s DCODE Network (2021–2025) developed practice orientations and tactics for queering AI through a trilogy of autotheoretical experiments. These experiments explored identity mutation, algorithmic borderlands, and disidentificatory codings, proposing new directions for how AI can be developed and practiced as generative, relational, and queer. Currently, I am Co-Head of the Temporary Master’s Programme Monstrous Futurities: Practices in (Un)learning,(Un)making,(Un)worlding (2025–2027) at the Sandberg Instituut, Amsterdam. Previously, I served as Design Research & Insight Lead at Deloitte Digital (AU–NL), working with industry, government, and third-sector organisations to deliver innovation and digital transformation initiatives grounded in systemic change and futures literacy. Beyond academia and industry, I co-founded Australia’s first queer womxn-led makerspace and am a member of Becoming (CAT), with work presented at the WFSF World Conference, PRIMER Festival, Telefónica Madrid, and TEDx Sydney. As a researcher and educator, I am committed to building infrastructures for experimentation, collaboration, and more-than-human futures. I welcome opportunities for collaboration, speaking, and knowledge exchange at the intersections of AI, design, and futures thinking.
