About Grace Norris
I am a first-year PhD student in the combined PhD/MScOT program at Western University. My research, which builds from my master's work, will critically examine how responsive behaviours are thought about, talked about, and approached amongst persons living with dementia and how this influences care practices and approaches within occupational therapy. My master's thesis critically explored the educational gaps experienced by Ontario personal support workers concerning dementia care. Addressing responsive behaviours in person-centered ways as well as communicating with and enhancing agency amongst persons living with dementia and communication difficulties were some of my major findings. I am driven by a passion for producing research that not only questions current dementia care practices but also advocates for greater social justice within these practices and empowers those within the community. I hope to one day be able to combine my research knowledge with my occupational therapy practice to accomplish these goals.
