About Grace van Ankum

Hi, my name is Grace and I have been supporting individuals with addictions for several years. My work has included walking alongside women exiting human trafficking, the sex trade and addictions here in Canada. My experience living overseas with my family prepares me to work cross-culturally with sensitivity. Currently, I provide individual and group addictions counselling in various residential programs. Through these various settings it became apparent that addiction impacts individuals and families from every race, gender and socio-economic status. I have witnessed individuals courageously begin new lives of recovery; inspiring me to become an Addiction Counsellor and help others move towards positive life changes. My goal is to create a calm, warm and caring environment which helps you feel safe, understood and accepted as we work together. Together we will create a treatment plan to help you reach your goals. My approach incorporates the use of Narrative Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I understand that clients may desire to integrate their faith into their counselling and I am willing to use my Christian faith and other spiritual resources in our counselling sessions. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Honours Psychology degree from Redeemer University and a Professional Studies Certificate in Addictions Counselling from Emmanuel Bible College. I am a member of the Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation.
