About Gracy Powers

My primary laboratory experiences and skills were achieved during my employment with KJ Scientific where I began as an intern and became a Research Scientist and Lab Manager. I was able to utilize many skills I learned as a biotechnologist and biologist while performing a multitude of bioaccumulation studies & experiments. These studies used primary cells (hepatocytes & S9 Fractions) from liver fish cells which I extracted myself alongside Dr. Johanning. Post extraction, I learned to characterize these cells using EROD, GST and Bradford Assays. During the expansion of KJ, I learned how to operate and maintain many instruments which include HPLC, GC-MS, GC-MS/MS and LC-MS/MS. This also included method development of many different chemicals and Natural Complex Substances (Pesticides, Cannabinoids, Terpenes, of the few). The expansion also included preparing KJ for ISO certification in which I was very involved with, writing SOPs and preparing other documentation needed in relation to maintaining our Laboratories. The ability to understand and operate such Mass Spec instruments opened a door for me at Astrotech as they needed a Project Manager to help maintain fluidity in their separate divisions of their R&D department. I am now able to experience the developments and enhancements to Astrotech's instrumentation.
