About Graham Smith

As the Head of Open Energy at Amerex Brokers, I run a team of brokers sourcing and brokering utility and distributed generation renewable energy projects, as well as a technology team continually designing, developing and improving the Open Energy marketplace. I have fifteen years of experience in the renewable energy finance and M&A sector, and I am passionate about using the power of the market to transform renewable energy finance and scaling. I founded Open Energy Group in 2013, a technology driven M&A and financing exchange for commercial solar finance consumers. I set out a vision for the business, assembled a strong team, and drove the company from concept to initial project funding to $500 million of assets under management. I led the fundraising round and process that resulted in the sale of the company and an exit to BGC Group BGC (NASDAQ) in 2023. Since then, I have been leading the expansion of Open Energy's technology platform into the wider Amerex and BGC business. We have transacted over 1 GW of renewable energy assets in the last ten years, and we count hundreds of developers and institutional buyers as clients. I have a background in financial services and derivatives trading, having been a partner at Phoenix Partners, where I helped build a global derivatives trading platform and business, and established relationships with US regulators. I also have a strong track record of athletic achievements, having been an Olympian, a World Rowing Champion, and a Boat Race Winner. I bring a combination of leadership, innovation, and excellence to everything I do.
