Once upon a time, a seven-year-old boy, fascinated by his father’s profession as a machinist, mistook it for blacksmithing (bear with me, he was seven!). Fast forward a few decades and behold me, a Customer Success Specialist by day and an amateur blacksmith by night. A strange combo you'd say? Well, welcome to my world! At the crack of dawn, you can find me in my garden shed hammering away at some unsuspecting piece of metal, trying to shape it into something usable, while catching glimpses of my daughters learning the importance of determination, creativity, and a good sense of humour. Yes, I didn’t just pick up blacksmithing for fun, I’m keeping the (misunderstood) family tradition alive and giving my daughters an unconventional show-and-tell story! In my free time, I’m either herding friends on a wild canoe adventure across the Algonquin interior (imagine Bear Grylls but with more laughter and less drama) or introducing them to the cinematic wonder that is 'Attack of the Killer Tomatoes'(fun fact: Killer Tomatoes 2 features George Clooney sporting a mullet!). Nothing beats the joy of seeing the awe in someone's eyes when they spot their first moose or their confusion when a tomato turns monstrous on screen! Professionally, I’ve had the pleasure of navigating through exciting challenges at Shopify, working tirelessly to keep our merchants afloat when the seas turned rough. Last year, a significant overhaul of our services felt like a 'Killer Tomato' attack in the making. But with a cool head, solid strategy, and my team's hard work, we sailed through it, exceeding expectations for merchant retention. I promise it was a lot less messy than an actual tomato attack! As a Customer Success Specialist, I've been told my superpower lies in my ability to handle chaos, build strong relationships, and create an atmosphere of trust and collaboration. As a father, it lies in guiding my girls to be resilient, empathetic and to appreciate a good mullet when they see one (looking at you, George).
