About Grant Irvine

With 14 years of hands-on experience as an RF/analog IC designer, 5 years combining hands-on design work with leadership of a small design team, 3 years as leader of a larger design team, 3 years as a program director leading a large multi-disciplinary team in the development of complete RF chipsets, and most recently, 12 years setting up and managing a new transceiver development group, I have been able to build on my detailed technical knowledge in the field of IC design by acquiring management experience across a wide range of disciplines. The team that I managed at Huawei successfully designed five generations of cellular transceivers from concept to production readiness, and these went into high-volume mass production and were deployed in high-end Huawei smartphones.My program/project management skills include:• Planning: Scope, staffing, schedule, budget, risk assessment• Tracking: Monitoring execution versus plan, driving issues to resolution• Cross-functional coordination of planning, tracking, and execution for system engineering, IC design and layout, package layout, development of lab test environment (PCB and test automation software), lab testing (bring-up, debug, characterization, root cause analysis), production test development, and reliability testing• Change control• Status reporting• Driving on-time execution while meeting quality standards for high-volume production• Monitoring and improvement of workflows and processes (post mortems, lessons learned)
