About Grant Whitney

As a Senior Tool Designer, I have honed my skills and expertise in the aerospace machining inspection and government defense contracting industries. My proficiencies have largely been focused on creating specialized inspection routines to authenticate and confirm the effectiveness of weld fixtures and drill jigs. Throughout my tenure, I have created and implemented hundreds of these inspection programs, all aimed at providing exhaustive engineering analysis. Among the various accomplishments I've had the honor to achieve, one that I take particular pride in is the development of an advanced 3D scan station. This cutting-edge tool was ingeniously designed to quantify weld distortion before machining operations commence. In addition, it serves an essential function in determining if specific surfaces will clean up during the machining process. The development and implementation of this tool have resulted in significant improvements in both efficiency and accuracy in the industry. Over the course of my career, I have also had the opportunity to design numerous weld fixtures and holding fixtures, particularly used in the fabrication of ground combat vehicles. This task, albeit demanding, showcased my capability to deliver pragmatic solutions in environments where the stakes were extremely high and precision was of paramount importance. In terms of technical prowess, my expertise extends to a multitude of software tools. I am proficient in Polyworks Inspection, Autodesk Fusion 360, and Autodesk Inventor, and have substantial experience in implementing them in my design work. Moreover, my comprehensive understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD & T), coupled with an extensive knowledge of fabrication techniques and processes, serves as a cornerstone of my expertise in tool designing. As I navigate further into my career as a Senior Tool Designer, my ambition is to harness my extensive skills and experiences to address complex design challenges. I am highly motivated to contribute to the success of innovative projects within the aerospace and defense sectors, and to continue to foster development and innovation in these industries.
