About Grayson Miller

I'm a Father, Husband, Commissioned Episcopal Lay Minister, Family Therapist, and hardcore blues music fan. After 20 years in Corporate Planning and Mega-Systems Development, I re-careered as a Family Therapist (FT). As a FT intern in 1996 I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome (now High Functioning Autism)(AS/HFA), ADD/ADHD, & Dysgraphia among other Learning Differences [LDs](NOT Disorders!). I have over 27 years specializing in LDs especially AS/HFA on the Autism Spectrum and over 12 years of experience in Serious & Persistent Mental Illness directing Inpatient Psychiatric Intensive Care Units [PICUs] & PICU PHPs (Partial Hospital Programs or Day Treatment) I presented for two hours on "Working with Mandated Sex Offenders" at the 1998 Texas Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (TAMFT) Conference in San Antonio, Texas. I presented a three-hour seminar on "An Innovative Approach to Therapy with People who have Severe and Persistent Mental illness (SPMI)" at the 2003 TAMFT Conference. I detailed the treatment model developed by the Boston University Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation and how our team implemented it on our Psychiatric Intensive Care Units during the past five years. In March 2014 I presented a four-hour seminar on "High Functioning Autism: How the latest brain research informs Family Therapy Practices" at the TAMFT Conference in Houston, Texas. In April of 2016, I was honored to be a presenter at the Benjamin J. Geigerman Lecture Series at the McGovern Medical School of UTHealth at Houston. My topic was "Autism Spectrum Disorder: Mastering Anxiety in the Transition to Adulthood." I spoke on emerging breakthroughs in observing the effects of sensations processed into emotions from the amygdala to the medial prefrontal cortex that precipitated behavior observed on functional MRI (fMRI) scans. In November 2018 I was asked to present a 5-hour seminar on "High Functioning Autism: How the latest brain research informs Family Therapy Practices: Emerging breakthroughs in observing the effects of sensations processed into emotions from the amygdala to the medial prefrontal cortex that precipitated behavior observed on functional MRI (fMRI) scans.at the Fifth World Congress on Autism. I was forced to cancel my presentation due to major back surgeries plus comorbid severe dizziness/vertigo.
