About Greg Anspach

When I was a kid, I loved looking at maps. If we were on a road trip, I was the navigator. My aunt would often comment that I could look at a map once and know exactly where we were and where we were going. I took that passion and made a life out of it. As the GIS Manager for Duke University Facilities, I handle a broad spectrum of requests from people that want to show what their information looks from a top down perspective. My job is to empower decisions for other people, not to make those decisions for them. Does a student have an idea for a class project involving campus wayfinding? I can guide them along. Does an engineer need to asses existing infrastructure on a part of campus? I can point them in the right direction. My role as a navigator is still the same today as it was when I was a kid. I am helping people find their way using spatial data. It used to be a paper map. Today it is with servers and databases. My passion today is still the same as it was many years ago. I know where we are and I know where we want to go. I know I can help get us there.
