Dr. Greg Berry teaches English at South Salem High School, where he served as Teacher Leader for ten years, and is now Instructional Coordinator for English, World Languages, and Fine Arts. He is also National Honor Society advisor and a member of the school School Improvement Leadership Team. He is an adjunct English/writing instructor at Chemeketa Community College where he teaches courses in English composition and technical writing, and is one of the state of Oregon's scoring directors and trainers for state writing and reading assessment."With 24 years of professional experience, Dr. Berry is recognized as an authority on literacy education"(Cambridge Who's Who). He was a Crystal Apple nominee in 2003. Dr. Berry has conducted teacher trainings and workshops on a variety of subjects and teaches courses in the Department of Education at Western Oregon University. He considers working with students in the classroom, whether they are adults or young adults, to be the most rewarding aspect of teaching. Prior to coming to the Salem-Keizer School District, he taught English and Drama at Ontario High School and Treasure Valley Community College. Dr. Berry received his bachelor of arts in English, bachelor of science in education, and master's in education from Eastern Oregon University (1986, 1990). He completed his Doctorate in Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, from Portland State University in 2009. His dissertation research focused on literacy leadership and literacy coaching in secondary schools. He is the author of Literacy for Learning: A Handbook of Content-Area Strategies for Middle and High School Teachers, which was published in 2014 (Rowman & Littlefield) and Cultivating Adolescent Literacy: Standards, Strategies, and Performance Tasks in 2017 (Rowman & Littlefield). His hobbies include reading, traveling, cooking, music, hiking, and gardening.
