Background

About Greg Coats

I am currently a Sr TSE supporting vSAN for VMware’s Premier customers. I also mentor and train junior TSEs and have written multiple KB articles for VMware. I have a strong background in networking, vSphere, vSAN and core NAS/SAN storage. When VMWare's Premier Support Team's management needed dedicated vSAN support, I was chosen due to my customer facing and rapport skills - especially in high pressure scenarios. I have been in the technology industry my entire adult life. From the day I was honorably discharged from the US Army until now, I have always been driven to stay at the bleeding edge of emerging technology. I have great leadership skills and work very well in a team setting…people truly like working with me. After a number of years selling and supporting technology in the healthcare industry, I took advanced classes on routing and switching and earned CCNA and CCNP certifications. I was hired by AT & T Wireless immediately after receiving my CCNP certification, where I spent just over 4 years as a WAN Analyst II supporting an OSPF Cisco Internetwork. In August, 2012 I became a TSE for the first time – fielding inbound Sev 1 calls for NetApp customers. After 2 years as a TSE1 in Florida, NetApp promoted me to TSE3 and moved me to North Carolina. I provided escalation support for NFS and CIFS protocol issues on NetApp’s cDOT and 7-mode storage arrays, spending 80% of my time analyzing packets traces for complex storage issues. About 2 years later, NetApp laid off roughly 1,500 employees - including me. Just after that layoff, VMware hired me and moved me to Colorado where I became the 7th member of a fledgling vSAN support team in July 2016.
