About Greg Demaggio

I am an accomplished project leader. As a physicist, I've worked on everything from solar cells to anti-matter interactions with materials to study structure. My main experience has been in instrument design and fabrication over several areas of research and development. The varied knowledge I've collected has been of value for finding unique solutions to difficult problems. As early as I can remember, I have wanted to understand how things work and what are the underlying mechanisms for what we see. I opted to work in industry while pursuing advanced degrees, which took a lot of effort but deepened my educational experience and brought something more to the work as well. Throughout all of that I learned that there were few shortcuts to real world problems and it often takes dogged determination to finally succeed. When I led groups or taught co-op students, I determined that it was my job to make their jobs easier. This included writing tutorials, determining how to safely handle hazardous materials, and carrying out new procedures myself before asking anyone else to do them. I've learned to plan projects and estimate steps and the time required for each step. My philosophy is that good news can wait, bad news must be immediately addressed. While I don't have a problem meeting with groups, I prefer to meet with members individually. In that way I can more easily gauge where a difficulty might be, and pass on my understanding and enthusiasm for the work.
