About Greg Heiple

Former Council member Greg Heiple is a longtime resident of Norman and forward thinking father of two young boys. After graduating from Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri, and working in the financial industry, he moved back to his hometown of Norman to start his own small business from scratch. For the past 20 years he has run that same financial planning company out of Norman and continues to provide those services today. He began his official service as council-member for Ward One in July, 2013. Ward One includes the area east of 12th Avenue N.E. between Alameda Street and Lindsey Street extending to 48th Avenue S.E. and between 12th Avenue S.E. and 24th Avenue S.E. with the west boundary being Classen Boulevard and State Highway Nine being the southern boundary. Greg knows what it is like to overcome adversity. He was born deaf and knows what it is like to not be heard. He eventually learned to listen and uses that unique ability as a councilman. Greg was also diagnosed with stomach cancer a few years after starting his small business. The love and support of his fellow community members in Norman helped him overcome the cancer and now he works to repay that kindness to his neighbors. Greg’s philosophy on the City Council is to “lead with kindness.” He knows that divisive politics isn’t the way to move Norman forward. He respects every person who has an idea about working for a better community. He pledges to listen to both sides of every issue and sit down and talk with everyone. That’s what Greg’s unique experiences have taught him: to listen, to give back and to lead with kindness. Council-member Heiple was the chairman of the Council Finance Committee and the Business and Community Affairs Committee. He also serves as Council’s representative to the Norman Convention and Visitors Bureau.
