I manage technology architectures across software, cloud and network infrastructure, optimising code quality, performance and security on multiple platforms. I mentor architects and developers in good engineering practice and in the adoption of new, pragmatically valuable technologies to raise quality, create business opportunities and reduce costs. That broad, integrated and hands-on view is the special value that I bring to the projects that I work on. I bring a systematic, evidence based approach to problem solving, whether the problem be: • development of a novel, constraint-based case management system for one of the only successful large-scale multi-jurisdictional court projects in the world, a major project that I led the architecture for • design of complex integration flows between agencies: XML and JSON vocabulary-based message design combined with an appreciation of the limits that organisation structure places on both integration and business process design, to get message design times down from weeks to hours and ensure that message validation is carried out at the right points in the process • coordination of design and deployment of infrastructure for a cloud based MS Dynamics CRM system, working on the integration logical design with diverse third parties (web services and messaging), followed by development of a comprehensive and easily re-runnable load test (NodeJS based) of the overall system • resolution of performance issues in a major retail system, which provided a rapid 80% reduction in server footprint handling 5m transactions per day, through modelling of the workload (using R) to define a targeted improvement program and oversight of that improvement program • remediation of a major billing system (80% reduction in processing time, elimination of severity 1 defects over the last five years, providing a clear definition of scalability and mentoring the team in its application using R, Java and a variety of other tools) • introduction of DevOps techniques into clients applications teams, mentoring the teams in the use of Docker, TFS/Azure DevOps, Ansible, Jenkins, Python, various code audit and security scan tools, and driving development of automated load tests of the systems • Participation in Fujitsu’s Open Group board membership as an alternate board member, including participating in the development of Enterprise Architecture offerings in Fujitsu Japan.
