Greg has a partial appointment at the University of Nebraska in the Institute of Agriculture and Natural resources working on projects to link the Institute's programs and research to producers and policy discussions. As Undersecretary for Marketing and Regulatory Services, Greg supervised the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service Service (APHIS) and the Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) agencies at USDA. Appointed by President Trump and confirmed unanimously by the Senate on October 26, 2017, he was sworn in by Secretary Perdue on October 30, 2017. Prior to his USDA appointment Greg served as Nebraska’s Director of Agriculture for over 12 years. He began his service as Director of the Nebraska Department of Agriculture in June 2005, receiving the appointment from Governor Dave Heineman after spending six and half years in the Assistant Director role. Greg and his wife continue to maintain a cow/calf and grain operation near Sumner in central Nebraska. He has past agricultural leadership experience, serving in a number of positions within both state and national organizations. He has numerous honors and recognitions, including Block and Bridle Animal Science Honoree, Agricultural Economics Department Outstanding Alumni, and Induction into the Nebraska Hall of Agricultural Achievement. Greg holds a bachelor of science degree in agriculture from the University of Nebraska, with majors in animal science and agricultural economics. He and his wife, Teresa, have three children and 3 grandchildren.
