About Greg MacPherson

Greg's career is now following an enlightened path. But it hasn't always been so. He was once on the dark side, in the mysterious commercial world! In the beginning things seemed rosy, St Peters College, science at Adelaide and business at Monash. How was he led astray? What made him see the light? Majoring in pharmacology, Merck seemed like a good idea. Merck had him flogging all manner of trinkets and slimy things to scientists and doctors to test, probe and generally look under the hood. Not to mention the potions and cauldrons he passed onto those drug companies to construct their concoctions. When wife Anne was offered a post doc at Cambridge University, they were off to the UK. Greg got some high falutin position with Cambridge Lasers. Besides swanning around Europe appointing distributors, he shaped up the factory workers so they made more lasers with less pay. He also managed to siphon off some government money for R&D on his crazy laser idea. How far into the dark side could he go? Venture capital? Yes, the Macpherson clan was cleared out and sent back to SA where Greg joined a VC firm. From these depths what turned him back towards the light? A cushy government job, of course. Greg joined the world’s best team of business developers and set up Program Nova which offered Venture Knowledge; no cash, just a lot of really good help to grow businesses. So there was higher sales, more employment, and longer lunches. The light was brighter down Greg’s path as UniSA beckoned. At Itek Greg put research on a pedestal for the world to see and use. The darkness is well behind him now. Greg is at one with the idea of sub cruce lumen at Adelaide Uni. Here he is showing just what can be done when you understand both sides.
