What defines an income gap? In short, this is a gap between the funds necessary to live comfortably and worry-free and the amount of money that is short to meet those necessities, due to unplanned costs, expenses, taxes, fees, etc. Surprisingly, even wealthy persons can experience income gaps. The fear of not being able to maintain one's accustomed lifestyle can affect nearly all income groups. What can cause or widen an income gap? Unknowns, excessive debt/expenses, lack of savings, taxes, health challenges, bad luck, lack of planning, etc. Bridging those gaps is generally possible once properly identified and a plan put into place. The key is identifying the culprit(s) ahead of time. I am an insurance broker and part sleuth.
