About Greg Samuelson

Transitioning back to COBOL programming from my current career as a pysical therapist. From a prior career lasting two decades, I have experience as a COBOL programmer in IBM mainframe environments, writing, installing, and maintaining financial, inventory, and merchandising software while working with the end users to meet their requirements. My IT experience also includes positions as a systems programmer where I installed, configured, and maintained software to keep mainframe systems stable, up to date, and running efficiently. I also have experience as a user or programmer or sysadmin or software tester on other computer systems including: Cray, DEC, Sun, Silicon Graphics, Data General, IBM Series 1, Unisys, Honeywell, and CDC. To refresh my professional knowledge and learn about advances in the IBM mainframe COBOL environment and software development, over the past several years I have completed the following professional development activities: Taken the on-line IBM / Open Mainframe COBOL programming course Viewed the 16-part IBM series of webcasts titled "COBOL Fridays" Purchased and read 4 of the Murach series of books about the IBM mainframe environment:"Mainframe COBOL""CICS for the COBOL Programmer""DB2 for the COBOL Programmer""OS/390 and Z/OS JCL". Purchased and read the O'Reilly book "Designing and Programming CICS Applications". Purchased and read the book by L. D. Knowings "Mastering Agile Software Development".
