About Greg Zwicker

One of the region’s leading planners, Greg is known for bringing clarity to the complex. Greg is Co-founder and Principal Planner at zzap, where he leads the firm’s strategy and vision for creating vibrant communities at the intersection of culture, environment, social and economy. Greg approaches each project through this lens with a unique depth of knowledge for the design and approval process, from rural towns to urban centers. With an understanding of both private and public interests, he is a trusted community builder who believes that places for people are built through meaningful engagement and good design. As a Senior Planner with over two decades of experience working with municipal and provincial planning teams, he has a strong reputation for building relationships and developing inclusive plans and strategies for communities across the region. His work encompasses community planning, policy development, community engagement, and project management. In his leadership capacity, he is helping shape the future of Halifax Regional Municipality, managing and delivering community-based projects ranging in scale from single lot developments to full community masterplans and Municipal Policy documents. Greg has managed the Public Engagement and Approvals for several major development projects in HRM, including the Cogswell Interchange Redevelopment and the Port Masterplan. His background as a Land Use Planner and his in-depth understanding of the Policy and Regulations in HRM gives him a unique perspective which he uses to create viable and ultimately, transformative development plans. Greg holds a Master’s Degree in Urban and Rural Planning from Dalhousie University along with a Bachelor of Arts in Geography with a specialization in Planning from Saint Mary’s University. He is currently a member of the Canadian Institute of Planners and Licensed Professional Planners Association of Nova Scotia (LPPANS). He is President of LPPANS, and is a former director with the Urban Development Institute and the Portland Estates and Hills Residents’ Association.
